One source of the schism is politics. Donald Trump is widely approved of in Israel, whereas a majority of American Jews are strongly opposed to him. A growing number of American Jews, moreover, are sharply critical of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach to Palestinians and his authoritarian tendencies. Additionally, American Jews and Israelis are divided on theological grounds.
