Abstract

Tidhar initially set out to explore Israeli science fiction and learned it was virtually non-existent. He discovered, however, that "the modern genre of science fiction owes much of its existence to Jewish writers." Indeed the term "science fiction' was coined by a Jewish immigrant to the United State, Hugo Gernsback. The burgeoning field became a magnet for Jewish writers, including Isaac Asimov and Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who created the famous "Superman." Click on the link above to read the article.
