dc.description.abstract | Entry in the YIVO Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe about Russian-born novelist and playwright, Sholem Asch (spelled elsewhere in NAJC, Sholom Ash). The article discusses his work and his trajectory from Russia to Poland to the United States, where he became an American citizen, and living at the end of his life in a suburb of Tel Aviv. Asch was committed to promoting recognition of "central place in Jewish life of the Yiddish language."
