Abstract
An article about Claudia Sheinbaum, who became Mexico's first female and the first Jewish president on June 2, in a landslide victory. Mexico is the third--and biggest--country to have a Jewish leader. The other two countries that have a Jewish leader are Israel and Ukraine. One set of her grandparents emigrated to Mexico from Lithuania in the 1920s and the other set fled to Mexico from Bulgaria in the 1940s in order to escape the Holocaust. Her victory came, despite antisemitic attacks on her. She is a climate scientist and formerly served as mayor of Mexico City.
