Abstract
Claudia Sheinbaum was announced as the candidate for Mexico's left-wing Morena Party, which is now led by Mexico's current president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She was an engineering professor at National Autonomous University of Mexico. She served as mayor of Mexico City, before stepping down to run for president. If her candidacy is successful, she would not only be the first woman or Jew to be elected to the presidency in Mexico, but would be one of the few Jews to be elected to their country's highest office anywhere outside of Israel.
