Abstract

"For one hundred and thirty years, Yiddish literature in America escorted, comforted and inspired American Jewry on its adventure in freedom. It captured the changing image of the Jewish people all over the world, both because of the centrality of American Jewry in Jewish life of the past century and because the Yiddish writers of America remained overwhelmingly faithful to the mission of Yiddish literature as a whole: to responsibly mirror, interpret and advance the life of the Jewish people."
