This article discusses the tradition of American Jews eating Chinese food on Christmas. So embedded is this tradition in American Jewish custom that the article quotes Elena Kagan during her confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court, responding to a question about how she spent the previous Christmas, by saying, "like all Jews, I was probably at a Chinese restaurant.” Chandler concludes by noting that "there are few days that remind American Jews of their Jewishness more than Christmas in the United States."
